Know the best way to spend these dreary Perth winter days? We do: eating waffles and rejoicing that cossie season is still months away. Before we know it, we’ll be back to slogging it at the gym in preparation for singlets and miniskirts. But until then, I say bring on the waffles!
Superstar Waffles gets it. The husband and wife team who own the little darling opened it a month ago to coincide with the start of winter.
What began as a dream of opening a coffee shop, morphed into something much more inspired. Where else in Perth can you find freshly made waffles topped with yumminess like peanut butter mousse, berries, chocolate sauce, ice cream, marshmallows or nuts?
My favourite is the Banoffee Waffle – a fluffy waffle sitting on a bed of warm toffee, topped with slices of banana, fresh cream and biscuit crumbles. For smaller appetites – or the perfect arvo pick-me-up – there are three types of waffle sticks. These are long rectangular waffles on skewers, drizzled with chocolate, sweet condensed milk or classic maple syrup.
To wash it down, Superstar Waffles serves Bean to Heaven coffee, a range of T2 teas, old school milkshakes and hot drinks you won’t find anywhere else like the Taro Latte, Caramel Macchiato and Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte.
Who knows, if business continues to buzz, Superstar Waffles may even join in on the latest food craze in the States: waffles with fried chicken. Now, that’s something to try before your health kick in spring!
