World Cocktail Week 2012

It’s World Cocktail Week – seven whole days devoted to the mixologists’ masterpieces. Unsure of how to spend the most spirited week of the year? Follow our night-by-night itinerary of Perth’s best cocktail bars:

399 Bar, Northbridge
The bartenders at 399 love a challenge. Every Monday, customers are invited – nay, pleaded with – to bring mystery ingredients that their bartender must incorporate into an original cocktail. But for an extra brain tease, tonight is also the Jim Beam Small Batch Masters cocktail competition.
What to order? Whatever the winning bartender whips up

El Público, Mount Lawley
With over 60 types of tequila and mescal behind the bar, the bartenders at Mexican restaurant El Público are well armed.
What to order? Uncle Ron’s Mexican Milkshake

Kitsch, Leederville
Occasionally, you come across a cocktail so delicious, it sears itself into your memory, bringing water to your mouth at every recollection. The Spicy Gingerbeer at Kitsch does that for us.
What (else) to order? The Red Rickshaw

Frisk! Espresso, Northbridge
Frisk! Espresso pours a lot more than just coffee. In the spare moments when the bartenders aren’t posting another social media update, they pour some killer cocktails from their a brand spanking new list.
What to order? The Espresso Martini

Luxe Bar, Mount Lawley
Luxe is Western Australia’s most awarded cocktail bar. In honour of World Cocktail Week, Luxe will be serving up their winter cocktails at special prices.
What to order? The Sloe and Rusty.

The Classroom, North Perth
In celebration of Cocktail Week, the bartenders/history teachers at the Classroom are recreating the signature cocktails of six of history’s most influential bartenders such as Jerry Thomas, Sam Ross and Salvatore Calabrese.
What to order? The Blue Blazer

Helvetica, Perth
Perth’s favourite whiskey bar serves some lovingly prepared cocktails. The best are those that they let age for two weeks in oak.
What to order? The Bijou
