The Wine Store is an institution in East Freo’s George Street community, beloved by picnickers and hosts of impromptu dinner parties for its ready supply of wine, beer, cheese and artisan bread – the cornerstones of any memorable meal.
In a move that has endeared them to customers even more, The Wine Store has expanded, and just last week opened the doors of its very own wine bar.
The wine bar emulates the breezy, stylish and historically rich neighbourhood surrounding it. Modern, neutral-coloured furniture rest against walls of floor-to-ceiling grainy photographs, punctuated by bright flashes of green from bowls of limes and potted plants.
With an entire bottle shop and basement wine cellar at its disposal, it’s no surprise that The Wine Store offers such unparalleled choice of national and international wines. Just pace yourself, because this is one long wine list.
Given just as much attention is the food at The Wine Store, which has a decidedly European and South American flair. The menu changes on a daily basis, but always utilises the best local produce available. We tried – and loved – the beef empanadas and can’t wait to come back for the Fremantle sardines on toast.
So throw that ratty picnic blanket in the wash, give that picnic basket a break and drop by the wine bar instead. The ants won’t thank you, but your palette sure will.
