While Perth’s continuing love affair with all things vintage has made finding darling one-off dresses, kitsch homewares and keepsakes all the more difficult, you wouldn’t know it stepping inside Bluebird Vintage. Tucked in next to an antiques shop on Cambridge Street, the tiny store is crammed full of quirky, colourful retro gems and what’s better, it’s all reasonably priced.
A groaning clothes rack carrying the sign “nothing over $5” accents the front door and inside, patterned wallpaper boasts mounted deer heads, 1950s oil paintings, shelves of retro glasses, plates and homewares, racks of soft leather cowboy boots and clustered antique mirrors. Glass cabinets show off the store’s collections of jewellery, sunglasses and Polaroid cameras.
While the collectibles alone could keep you occupied for hours, no visit to Bluebird Vintage is complete without a browse through its racks of beautiful, unique clothes from 1960s sundresses and delicate lace blouses, to shimmering sequin butterfly tops and 1980s full-length jumpsuits. Right down to the vintage ladies’ head coat hangers, every décor detail will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time and owner Deb, who offers free valuations of collectibles, harks back to an era when smiling shopkeepers always had time for a chat. Make sure to set aside time to trawl through Bluebird’s unique treasures and you’ll be richly rewarded by what is one of Perth’s best vintage warrens.
