The double duty café is genius. Freo’s Bobby and Olive is part fashion boutique, part café. New Edition in Northbridge sells as many books as flat whites. And now there’s Sidney LOVES Audrey – a new gift/coffee shop in West Perth.
The shop is the brainchild of Sian Hanrahan – a lover of baking, antique furniture and homemade knickknacks, three passions well represented at the four-week-old Sidney LOVES Audrey. The shop is filled with quirky, handmade objects sourced from local artists or online (yes, Sian’s a huge fan of Etsy!), basically things you can’t find at other shops around Perth like unique jewellery, pillows, children’s toys, lampshades and artwork. The kind of stuff that gives a dash of personality to a room.
Amongst all of the prettiness are vintage sofas and armchairs, which gives the whole room the feeling that you’re in a lounge room and not a shop. Visitors sit chatting over coffee, interrupted only by the lovely ding of the oven, followed by a warm waft of some freshly-baked treat.
Which, lets face it, is the real drawcard of Sidney LOVES Audrey. Sian makes everything from scratch. On the day we visited, there were platters of brownies, cakes, biscuits and muffins. The smell was divine. The food has become so popular, in fact, that local professionals have begged Sian to make savoury lunchtime alternatives to the neighbourhood’s only other nearby food sources: a KFC and a servo station. Shudder.
Yes, things are dire in this corner of West Perth. Sidney LOVES Audrey couldn’t have arrived at a better time.
