Perth’s comedy scene is growing. Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den at the Brisbane Hotel is in its seventh year, the Comedy Lounge has been going strong for ten years with weekly shows at Little Creatures and the Charles Hotel, and then of course there’s the annual Perth Comedy Festival.
Last November, The Shack on Murray Street joined the fraternity of funny. Once a month, it transforms from a laid-back burger-and-cocktail joint to a comedy club featuring local up-and-comers new to the stand-up scene, as well as some great international talent passing through town.
We visited on Tuesday night and chuckled our way through the supporting acts (the Olympics took the brunt of the jokes) before the side-splittingly funny Jim Dailakis took the stage. What the Perth-born, NYC-based comedian does best is impressions; Hollywood actors like Dustin Hoffman, John Travolta, Sylvester Stallone and Robin Williams were all mercilessly and hilariously parodied. (pst – Jim’s performing this Saturday 11 Aug at the Comedy Lounge at Little Creatures!)
The next show is scheduled for 4 September. Mark your calendars!
