Could Boho Espresso serve Scarborough’s best breakky? Quite possibly. Its best coffee? Pretty likely. Most important of all, Scarb’s best coconut smoothie? Absolutely.
Boho Espresso is a hip little coffee shop in the heart of Scarborough – just steps away from the sand and within earshot of Scarborough’s famous surf. The place is decked out with potted plants, chairs made from converted skateboards and shabby-chic armchairs, rugs and lamps. An entire wall is adorned with a mural of a sunset on a tropical beach. A series of shelves hold the mini provedore of hot sauces, sugar cubes and grape juice. Yes, we get that they’re going for unconventional, but the décor is really all over the place.
But all’s forgiven upon tasting the coffee, which Boho makes using a special blend of Brazilian and Ethiopian beans from local roasters Ristretto. For the caffeine-averse there’s even an herbal coffee substitute from Dandy Blend.
Breakfast and lunch include classics like eggs Benedict and homemade pancakes, but there are also some off-the-beaten-track options like bagel sandwiches and pan-fried salt and pepper barramundi. But for a liquid meal, the ‘The Cocobee’ wins hands down. It’s an amazing coconut, honey and banana smoothie served in a baby coconut shell. It’s drinkable summer.
The only non-bohemian thing about Boho is the prices, which are as conventional as every other overpriced café in Perth. $8 for juice and $14 for a breakfast wrap is expensive in anyone’s book. We’re not sure how the beach bums and surfer dudes – the clientele Boho seems to be created especially for – can afford it.
Maybe they’re the ones playing the live music at Boho on the weekends. Hm, wonder how many Cocobees they pay per hour?

Definetely going here! I reckon my backpacker wallet can handle at least ONE coconut smoothie and a coffee. Strongly doubt the coffee can overshine the one at West Side Deli http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/338/1421658/restaurant/Perth/Leederville/West-End-Deli-West-Perth though!!
Do you know that I’ve never tried the coffee there…. It’s now on my list
