Hedonists are spoilt for choice on a night out in Subiaco. There are enough bars that even the thirstiest of Saturday night revellers would be hard pressed to complete the entire Subi bar circuit.
But a visit to Purl Bar, Subiaco’s newest small bar, is a must. Why? Because it’s one of the only places you can get table service on a Saturday night. Because FHM magazine just named it one of WA’s best new small bars. Because it’s impossible to be overdressed within its four lusciously wallpapered walls. Because from your plush booth you can watch the queue grow at the Subi Hotel, and laugh self-congratulatorily.
Ok, so we’re not wild about the food, but what Purl Bar lacks in culinary prowess, it more than makes up for in behind-the-bar virtuosity. It’s all thanks to the bartenders, who shake, stir and muddle some wicked cocktails you won’t find in other Rockeby bars. For the tequila lovers, there’s the Plata Passion – a mixture of Cazadores blanco tequila, passionfruit, cloudy apple juice and muddled limes with a crème de mure float. We’re loyal to the Hot Apple Pie, a sweet-and-spicy combination of vodka, lemon, apple juice and falernum spices like clove, allspice and vanilla. Delicious.
So this Saturday, while plotting your Saturday-in-Subi itinerary, make room for a stop at the Purl Bar. Or better yet, stay all night.
