Oh, how I love Eat Drink Perth. The festival is basically month-long excuse to eat yourself silly.
Did you know that on every Wednesday in March you can actually win a prize for your gluttony? Northbridge Vietnamese restaurant What the Pho? is hosting weekly pho-eating competitions.
For $25, you receive a steaming bowl of beef noodle soup. Competitors who finish the soup – broth and all – within 20 minutes receive a t-shirt, a $50 voucher and some serious street cred.
But don’t expect a walk in the park. This isn’t a palm-sized bowl you’d see people eating their morning pho from on the streets of Hanoi. Oh, no. This pho comes in what could easily be mistaken as a salad bowl. It’s packed with a mass of rice noodles, thin slices of beef, onion and bean sprouts. The broth just reaches the brim.
To win this competition takes much more than a simple fondness for the national dish of Vietnam. It requires chopstick-wielding virtuosity, a burn-resistant tongue and a complete disregard for table manners. If you’re not slurping, you’re losing.
If you think you and your appetite have got what it takes, then sign up. Best bring along a bib, while you’re at it.

If you’re not slurping you are not eating noodles correctly! In ALL noodles cultures, slurping is acceptable and it’s the proper way to consume and enjoy soup noodles
Haha – yep, I completely agree
So are you competing in the pho competition?
If it’s good pho, I can eat 3 big bowls in 30 mins… I’ll pass on this comp
